In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O thou folded in garments! 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
