The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
