The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he thought; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
