The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
