The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
