Nay, and by the moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 surely (Hell) is one of the greatest Signs, 35 a warning to humankind, 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers) 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
