Nay, and by the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 Warn the men. 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Except those on the right side. 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 about the sinners. 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 and we gave the lie to the Day of Judgement 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
