The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 The Kafoor is a spring, from which the chosen bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to flow wherever they wish inside their palaces. 6 They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading. 7 And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (poor), the orphan, and the captive, 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 God will certainly rescue them from the terror of that day and will meet them with joy and pleasure. 11 and their reward for being patient will be a Garden and silk [clothing]. 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 And close down upon them (shall be) its shadows, and its fruits shall be made near (to them), being easy to reach. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. 17 (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 If you were to see it, you would find it to be a great kingdom with great bounty. 20 Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy. 21 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. 22
