The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 The night a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
