Said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 So there came the sorcerers to Pharaoh: They said, "of course we shall have a (suitable) reward if we win!" 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
