The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
