The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
