The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they differ? 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
