The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 The night a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 Recompense fitted! 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
