He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
