He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you ignore him. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
