He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what has God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
