He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
