He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
