He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 You pay full attention, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
