He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
