He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
