He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
