Al-Takweer
The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
29 verses, revealed in Mecca after Thorns (Al-Masad) before The All High (Al-A'alaa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sunlight is rolled up. 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 when the mountains shall be set in motion, 3 And when the pregnant she-camels shall be neglected; 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 And when the souls are paired 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 For what sin she was killed, 9 and when the scrolls of (men's) deeds shall be unfolded, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 And when hell is further enflamed. 12 And when the Garden shall be brought nigh, 13 then shall a soul know what it has produced. 14 So I swear by the retreating stars - 15 The stars which rise and set, 16 The closing night, 17 And the breath of morning 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; 21 And your companion is not [at all] mad. 22 he truly beheld him [the angel] on the clear horizon. 23 He is not avid of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight: 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
