The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven breaks apart. 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Surely yes, why not? Indeed his Lord is seeing him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And by the night and that which it driveth together, 17 And by oath of the moon when it is full. 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing. 25
