The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the heaven and the night-comer 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 It is the piercing star - 3 [for] no human being has been left unguarded. 4 So let man observe from what he was created. 5 He is created of water pouring forth, 6 issuing between the loins and the breast-bones. 7 Surely, He is Able to bring him back, 8 A day when the secrets will be examined. 9 [man] will have no power, and no helper. 10 By the heaven with its recurring cycle of rain, 11 And by oath of the earth which flourishes with it. 12 Most surely it is a decisive word, 13 not a flippant jest. 14 Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) 15 but I too plan against them. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while. 17
True are the words of God the Almighty.
