Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Glad with their endeavour (for their good deeds which they did in this world, along with the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism). 9 in a sublime garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 and raised couches, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
