Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 cushions ranged, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
