Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
