Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In an elevated garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And chosen goblets. 14 cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
