Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
