Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
