The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
