Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
