Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
