The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
