The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
