The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
