The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night as it envelops; 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
