The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
