The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
