The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
