The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
