The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 What is your opinion if he were upon guidance, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
