The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
