The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
