A numerous company from among the first, 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
