a good many of olden times, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
