The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
