۞ When the son of Mary was mentioned as an example, you people cried out in protest, saying, 57 and say: "Which is better - our deities or he?" [But] it is only in the spirit of dispute that they put this comparison before thee: yea, they are contentious folk! 58 (Jesus) was only a creature whom We favoured and made an example for the children of Israel. 59 If We pleased We could have put angels in place of you as trustees on the earth. 60 And (Jesus) shall be a Sign (for the coming of) the Hour (of Judgment): therefore have no doubt about the (Hour), but follow ye Me: this is a Straight Way. 61 And let not Satan bar you [from it] - for, verily, he is your open foe! 62 When Jesus came with the signs, he said: "I have come to you with authority, and to explain some thing about which you are at variance. So fear God, and follow me. 63 Verily Allah! He is my lord and your Lord, so worship Him: this is the straight path. 64 Then the factions fell apart among themselves. So woe to the wrong-doers from the chastisement of a grievous Day. 65 Await they aught save the Hour, that it shall come upon them suddenly, when they know not? 66 On that Day close friends shall become enemies of each other, except those who fear (Allah). 67
